"Dad Do"

Considering I spend all my days working in marketing and helping people Sleep Happy, I love keeping up with all the latest in advertising and marketing and I really geek out when I see an awesome campaign. Usually some of the best come Superbowl Sunday but this one came early :) This past Thursday I was getting ready when a commercial on YouTube caught my attention and gave me all the feels. I'm sure you've seen it by now, but it was Pantene's newest "Strong is Beautiful" campaign. This sweet ad features NFL players attempting to style their daughters hair. Beyond that, the message tells us that it's not the hair skills that matter, but that quality time with dad counts and helps girls become stronger women.
This was especially sentimental to me because my Dad was once a "Dad Do" specialist. When my brother Marc and I were headed to first grade, my Mom had to start leaving for work early which left dad the captain of mornings. As a (what I thought to be) fashionable 6 year old, this concerned me that my Mom wouldn't be there to do my hair and forced me to have Dad take "hair lessons". One Saturday, I brought down my pretty impressive collection of barretts, bows, bobby pins, combs and curlers and tried to teach dad how I liked my hair for school. I'm pretty sure I flunked him in our hair lessons but it's still one of my favorite memories. Although I didn't give him a chance to truly take on hair duty (I probably missed out on some cool hair days), he was a master at making us hot chocolate and breakfast every single morning. And then getting us to school every day while jamming out to our favorite song, "If I Had A Hammer." I clearly had some good taste in music back then.
So good job, Pantene. You've created a loyal customer and created something truly inspiring for dad's and their daughters. When I texted my dad to share this ad, his reponse was "Unfortunately I was not allowed to develop my styling skills but then you did spend quality time with your dad and you are a beautiful, strong woman!" I hope you enjoyed the commercials and don't forget to check out more in their "Strong is Beautiful" campaign featuring other NFL players and their "Dad Do's".
