Thanks for making me a fighter.

Updated: Jan 6, 2020

Recently I've experienced quite a few "firsts" in my career. Over the past couple of months I went through some disappointments, some departures of really close coworkers, some of whom have been critical to my success and growth, some business challenges on top of a crazy workload, and then my very first promotion. Unless you count going from an intern to a full-timer...still proud of that one :) So the past months have been a roller coaster of emotions to say the least.

To back up to the first thing on my list, disappointment, I wanted to share why I think I'll love this moment in my career. It's funny to think in the moment when you're going through something hard that you're going to be glad it happened. It's something people tell you and you want to roll your eyes (even though my Dad taught me never to do that). But it's really true and I'm glad I was patient, took the high road and was determined not let it get me down. I remember reflecting on my job and my purpose a lot and coming home that day and making a "Girl Boss" playlist for motivation. The very first song on this carefully curated playlist of mine was "Fighter" by Christina Aguilera. I was so inspired by this song and have listened to it every single morning to remind myself that when something gets hard, it will only make me work harder, faster, smarter and ultimately make me stronger. So I'm thankful for these moments and have a greater respect for hardships because it really did ignite a spark that, in Christina's words, "makes me that much stronger, makes me work a little bit harder, it makes me that much wiser so thanks for making me a fighter. Made me learn a little bit faster, made my skin a little bit thicker, makes me that much smarter, so thanks for making me a fighter."

And now I'm so excited to take on a new role at Mattress Firm and have the chance to continue to learn and grow! I one-hundred percent know that there will be more challenges, disappointments and "firsts" to experience in my career, and this was merely a bump in the long road ahead, but I just wanted to send a little love and positive vibes to anyone else starting out in their career and going through something that's troubling them and remind them that it's only training you to be a badass girl (or guy) boss.

Almost a year ago we moved into our new building, BedQuarters, and I remember going over there with a group of people to pray over our building. We prayed for the success of our company, for the happiness of our employees, for the customers who do business with us and more. We then all had the chance to write our favorite prayer on the concrete floors of our building during construction. I chose to write "Be The Light" and still continue to be faithful to that statement and strive to be the light for others and to always be positive, be happy, and be kind. Work can be a mess and hard but it's also a blessing. I hope you all can find the same joy and be the light for others as well! Thank you to everyone who has encouraged me, motivated me and inspired me. I love my friends, family and coworkers beyond words!
