Today I'm celebrating my FIFTH YEAR at Mattress Firm as a full-timer! As most of you know, I started as an intern the year after finishing up as a freshman at Texas Tech in 2011. Since that time, I truly think one of the best things in my life is the fact that people know how much I love my job. It's pretty much the coolest thing to know I have this total blessing of getting to love the work I do and have done. But that love comes from making a choice. Here's five choices, in honor of my 5 years, I make all the time:
1. A choice to be happy and kind, all so that I can love working with people who are all-around hard workers, passionate and smart and who hopefully like working with me.
2. A choice to challenge myself to take on more and become involved in things so I'm growing.
3. A choice to learn as much as I can inside and outside of work so that I'm able to contribute some of my best and new ideas in our rapidly changing world. (It's why I decided to get my MBA.)
4. A choice to support and help others whenever you possibly can. One of my favorite quotes is about making others feel special and heard.
5. A choice to work as hard as I can with the best outlook I can, because my company and coworkers deserve my best in the most positive way.
You see, everyone has a choice to do all or even some of those same, simple things in an effort to love their job more. Michelle Obama says, "There is no magic to achievement. It's really about hard work, choices and persistence." I hope you believe in that as much as I do.
Out of all of the best memories and times I've had while working here, I actually think this last year has been one of my favorites. Most memorably, I helped launch more than 10 new brands, and even got to launch one of those brands alongside our CEO. I got promoted to become a Product Marketing Manager, which is low key a dream come true. And honestly, I feel like I've found a whole new passion for my job and feel really proud- a feeling that is somewhat incomparable. I can't wait to keep hustling, learning, and loving this crazy place and my awesome co-workers, some of which are my very best friends. #CheersTo5Years
