"What Should We Be Proud Of?"

I have a twin brother, Marc, and when we were growing up my Dad kept a journal to document the funny things we did or said as babies and throughout our childhood. I'm SO grateful he captured these moments for us to look back on. There are many written entries that are hilarious, as you can imagine with twins, but this one is definitely one of my favorites...

Dad writes, "Megan had to go along to Marc's soccer practice tonight. After they got home and I came home I asked her if soccer was boring or if it was OK. She said it was 'soooo boring' and they were so proud of winning when it was silly- it is just a game. So I asked her what was important and what should we be proud of? And she thought a minute and said, 'Talking, serious talking not just girl talk, and business, and our work, and math, and listening to the teacher to learn. Those are important.' I said I agreed with her." 1998 (Age 6)

21 years later and I have to say, if my Dad asked me that same question today my answer probably wouldn't be much different. There is a lot I feel pretty proud of in my life. I am proud I've ran a marathon and three half-marathons when I never thought I'd be a "runner." I'm proud to be a manager at Mattress Firm and of the work I do here. I'm proud of my friends for starting businesses, buying houses, receiving awards and getting promotions. I'm proud of earning my MBA. I could go on, but what I'm reminded of is we all deserve to feel and be proud of ourselves and the things we can accomplish. We should also be kind, happy and supportive of our friends, family and co-workers who have things to be proud of as well.

Dad, thank you for documenting such wonderful, fun memories. Love you so much for that, among so many other things. Marc, I don't think soccer is boring and I am proud you won that game in 1998.

What are you proud of? Who are you proud of? What do you want to accomplish? You can do it!

Thanks for reading All Kinds of Vibes // Megan
